National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church

Mothers' Resource Center

The Mothers’ Shrine Resource Center, sponsored by the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church, has been established to provide comfort and offer help and assistance to mothers of all ages and walks of life.

Assistance will be offered to those mothers who have miscarried, have lost a newborn, have had a child die, have a son or daughter in the armed services, are raising their grandchildren, are caring for elderly parents, are dealing with the death of a spouse, or are in any stages of life where they need to talk to someone.

The Steering Committee has been developed, and we have applied for a toll free number. Training will be provided to all volunteers answering the phones. A list of organizations and counselors has been developed that takes referrals. This program will be offered free to all mothers.

Although this program is sponsored by the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church it will include volunteers from many churches and those individuals who want to offer their help.

When the program is firmly established, public speaking engagements will be offered to distribute the 800 number, explain the services and solicit additional volunteers.

Brochures will be printed and placed in traffic areas where mothers can easily have access to them.

Under the umbrella of The Mothers’ Shrine Resource Center is the Moms Ministry, called the West Lake MOMS Group, to serve the needs of younger mothers by providing spiritual, social, emotional, and practical support in the vocation of motherhood.

Mothers of all ages, at any stage of mothering, are welcome to be a part of this program offering Christian philosophy and teaching. The intent is to give all women a time of respite to refill their spirits. Care is provided for small children. Speakers address areas of concern to mothers at each meeting.

The West Lake MOMS Group meets at the Mothers’ Shrine every other Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All mothers are welcome.
